About Jerrianne Hayslett

Jerrianne Hayslett has worked as a journalist, trial court director of public information/media liaison, media-relations consultant and writer. The surprise that became Jerrianne debuted in Richmond, Virginia. After growing up in that area and living in various places in the U.S.—including a couple of decades in Southern California—and abroad with her husband and three children, she settled in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area where she was surprised to find Wisconsin ancestral roots.

During her tenure with the Los Angeles court, she dealt with media issues and coordinated media logistics for numerous high-profile cases, including the Menendez brothers, Heidi Fleiss, Rodney King beating, the O. J. Simpson criminal and civil trials and two cases involving Michael Jackson.

She also assisted judges and court administration with media coverage of numerous court outreach programs, such as Drug Courts and the Los Angeles Superior Court's pioneering Adoptions Day, which became the model for similar programs across the country.

After leaving the court in 2002, she has worked as a writer and media-relations consultant specializing in national and international court programs and projects. She assisted with the Michael Jackson child-molestation case in Santa Barbara County, California, and the Green River murders case in Seattle, Washington.

She has consulted on projects in Indonesia and the Balkans where her focus included improving public access to courts, conducting media training for judges and prosecutors, and presenting seminars for journalists on covering the courts.

She served as faculty for the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Courts and Media at the University of Nevada, Reno, during the decade it presented courses for judges, journalists, and court administrators.

Her articles have been published in California Lawyer, Court Manager, Courts Today, NJC Alumni, California County, The Judges' Journal, Milwaukee Magazine and The Bench. Her essays have aired on the Milwaukee public radio station WUWM. She created and maintains three blogs, including "Anatomy of a Trial" at WordPress.com

She is a member of the Council of Wisconsin Writers, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters and past member of the Conference of Court Public Information Officers, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association for Court Management.

Before joining the Los Angeles Court, Hayslett was a newspaper reporter and editor for dailies in California and Nevada. She earned a journalism degree from California State University, Fullerton, where she is listed on the Department of Communications Alumni Wall of Fame.

She writes fiction for adults, teens and children.

EXPERIENCE
Jerrianne Hayslett served as a communications consultant and media-relations trainer on U.S. State Department-sponsored programs for journalists in Albania, and for judges, prosecutors and official spokespersons in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia; USAID-funded projects in Indonesia and Serbia. Services included improving public access to court information in Indonesia; establishing public information functions for newly created Belgrade (Serbia) District Court's War Crimes and Organized Crime departments and War Crimes prosecutor's office and providing hands-on training of individuals hired for those positions, and conducting media-relations seminars for judges, prosecutors, journalists and court/prosecutor spokespersons in Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.

She conducted media relations and training workshops and presentations for Florida court staff, for judges and court administrators at Association of Metropolitan Courts national conference, for judges and administrators at the Pennsylvania President Judges and Administrative Court Managers annual meeting, for judges and lawyers at Nebraska state annual conference, and for judges and journalists jointly in several states. She served as faculty for judges, journalists and court staff programs at the National Judicial College's National Center for Courts and Media during the decade it conducted those programs.

She participated in a series of media-relations training programs for judges, prosecutors and journalists at three venues in Bulgaria, sponsored by the American Bar Association Central and Eastern European Law Initiative and a Bulgarian law-oriented organization.

She consulted on the Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant and Green River murders cases, advising judges and court staff on media-related logistics, issues, strategies and possible contingencies. Specific consultations/advisements include:
